Chapter - 2
2a And on the sixth day YHWH completed his work which he had done,
1 and the heavens and the earth were arranged, and all their host. Vayejulú hashamáyim veha'árets vejol-tseva'am.
2 2b And on the seventh day he rested from all his work which he had done. Vayejal YHWH bayom hashvi'i melajtó Aser asáh vayishbot bayom hashvi'í mikol-melajtó Aser asáh.
3 And YHWH blessed the seventh day more than all the days of the week and sanctified it (set it apart), because in it he rested from all his work which he created and made. Vayevárej YHWH et-yom hashvi'í vayekádesh otó ki vo shavat mikol-melajtó asher-bará YHWH la'asot.
Man in the Garden of Eden
4 [Aliyah 4] These are the generations of the heavens and the earth when they were created. In the day that YHWH made the earth and the heavens. Eleh toledot hashamáyim veha'árets behibare'am beyom asot YHWH érets veshamáyim.
5 On the day that YHWH made the earth and the heavens, there was no plant of the field, nor had any herb of the field sprouted in the earth, because YHWH had not caused it to rain on the earth, nor was there a man to till the Adamah.
6 But a spring came up from the earth and watered the whole surface of Adamah.
7 Then YHWH formed man (Heb: Adam) (excavated), from the dust of Adamah and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and man became a living soul. Vayítser YHWH et-ha'adam afar min-ha'adamáh vayipaj pe'apav nishmat jayim vayehí ha'adam lenéfesh jayáh.
8 YHWH planted a paradise toward the east, in Eden, and there Alef-Tav placed the man whom He had formed. Vayitá YHWH gan-be'Eden mikédem vayásem sham et-ha'adam Aser yatsar.
9 From Adamáh YHWH caused to grow every tree that is pleasant to the sight and good for food, and the tree of life in the midst of Paradise and the tree of learning of the knowledge of good and evil. Vayatsmaj YHWH min-ha'adamáh kol-éts nejmad lemar'eh vetov lema'ajal ve'éts hajayim betoj hagán ve'éts haDa'at tov vará.
10 A river flowed out of Eden to water the garden, and from there it divided into four streams. Venahar yotsé me'Eden lehashkot et-hagán umisham yipared vehayáh le-arba'áh rashim.
11 The name of the first is Pishon; it circulates throughout the land of Havilah, where there is gold.Shem ha'ejad Pishón hu hasovev et kol-érets haJaviláh asher-sham hazahav.
12 The gold of the earth is good; there is also carbuncle and the emerald stone. Uzahav ha'árets hahí tov sham habedólaj ve'éven hashóham.
13 The name of the second river is Gihon; it flows through the land of Kush. Veshem hanahar hashení Gijón hu hasovev et kol-érets Kush.
14 The name of the third river is the Tigris (Eddekel), which flows east of Ashur. The fourth river is the Euphrates. Veshem hanahar hashlishí Jidékel hu haholej kidemat Ashur vehanahar ha revi'í hu Ferat.
15 And YHWH Alef-Tav took the man whom He had formed and placed him in the Garden of Eden (Delight), to cultivate it and to take care of it.
16 YHWH gave man this command: You may freely eat from all the trees in paradise. Vayetsav YHWH al-ha'adam lemor mikol ets-hagán ajol tojel.
17 but of the tree of learning and the knowledge of good and evil - of this you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die. Ume'éts hada'at tov vará lo tojal mimenu ki beyom ajoljá mimenu mot tamut.
18 YHWH said: It is not good for the man to be alone, let us make him a help (contrary) before him.
19 So out of Adam, YHWH formed every kind of wild animal and every creature that flies in the sky, and brought them to the man to see what he would call them. Whatever the man called each living creature, that would be its name.
20 So the man gave names to all livestock, to the creatures that fly in the sky, and to every wild beast. But for Adam, no suitable companion was found to help him. Vayikrá ha'adam shemot lejol-habehemáh ule'of hashamáyim ulejol jayat hasadéh ulé-Adam lo-matsá ézer kenegdó.
21 And YHWH caused a trance to fall upon the man, and he slept. And he took one of his sides and closed up the flesh instead of it. Vayapel YHWH tardemáh al-ha'adam vayishán vayikaj ajat mitsal'otav vayisgor basar tajtenah.
22 From the rib that YHWH had taken from man, He made a woman; and He brought her to the man.
23 And Adam said, This is bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh. She shall be called woman (Hebrew: Ishah), because she was taken out of her man (Hebrew: Ish). Vayómer ha'adam zot hapá'am etsem me'atsamay uvasar mibesarí lezot yikaré isháh ki me'ish lukaja-zot.
24For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh. Al-kén ya'azov-ish et-aviv ve'et imó vedavak be'ishtó vehayú levasar ejad.
25 And they will be naked, the man and his wife, and will not be ashamed. Vayihyú shneyhem arumim ha'adam ve'ishtó veló yitboshashu.
